Kaoua Care Guide

Pearls and semi-precious stones thrive with care. By treating your Kaoua pieces with mindfulness, you ensure they stay radiant for years to come - just like your self-care, your jewels need it too! Got questions about a specific piece? We’re always happy to help.

Caring For Freshwater Pearls

Pearls love to be worn, gaining lustre and glow from the natural heat and oils in your skin. Wear your pearls often and they’ll thank you for it!

Wear Them Often: Unlike other gemstones, pearls don’t like being locked away. Regular wear keeps them hydrated and prevents them from drying out.

Avoid Harsh Chemicals: When wearing your pearls, ensure that they are the last thing you put on in the morning, and the first thing you take off at night to minimize their exposure to perfumes, sprays, sunscreens, and other chemicals that can weaken the sensitive nacre.

Store with Care: Never store pearls in airtight containers, as they need moisture. Lay them flat when storing.

Clean Gently: Wipe pearls with a soft, dry cloth after each wear. Never use a standard jewelry polishing cloth, as it often contains chemicals that can damage their delicate surface.

Keep Dry (Mostly): To prolong the life of your jewels, avoid getting your pieces wet. If you do, however (we’re also guilty of this!), rinse your pieces gently in fresh water, pat dry, and lay flat to dry completely before putting them back on or away.

Caring For Natural Stone

Our semi-precious stones are carefully selected for their unique beauty. Some are tough and resilient, while others require extra care. Treating your stones right will ensure they stay beautiful for years to come.

Know Your Stones: Some stones, like opals and turquoise, are more delicate than others. If you’re unsure about a particular stone, ask us!

Keep Away from Chemicals: Just like pearls, semi-precious stones don’t mix well with perfumes, lotions, or harsh cleaning agents. Always remove your jewelry before applying products.

Avoid Excess Water Exposure: While many semi-precious stones are water-resistant, some, like malachite and lapis lazuli, are porous and can absorb moisture, leading to damage. If your jewelry gets wet, dry it as soon as possible with a soft cloth.

Polishing with Care: A simple wipe with a soft cloth is usually enough. Avoid ultrasonic cleaners.

Storage is Key: Store each stone piece separately to prevent scratches, as harder stones (like quartz) can damage softer ones.

Sunlight Sensitivity: Some stones, like amethyst and opal, can fade or discolor when exposed to prolonged direct sunlight. Keep them in a cool, shaded place when not in use.

Gold-Plated Stainless Steel: Durable Yet Delicate

Our metal components are made of 0.5-micron gold-plated stainless steel, offering a balance of durability and good look.

Rinse After Ocean/ Pool Dips: If you forget to remove your jewelry before a swim (we do too!), rinse it in fresh water, pat it dry, and let it air dry completely before storing.

Polish Gently: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean metal components - avoid anything abrasive that could strip away the finish.
